I had the 2-5 shift last night. It’s considered the worst shift, as you at most get a couple hours sleep beforehand, and then a few more afterwards. Whereas the 10/11-2am shift means you can sleep from 2am til your hearts content, and if you do the 5am shift you can try and grab an early night beforehand. I actually quite like the shift though, once I get my audio book on I find the nights very calming, regardless of the sea state.
However I had little sleep afterwards. I tried to find the source of the constant banging of cups and plates about 5 times!
There’s no good place to sleep now. The forepeak is damp, and the cabin is next to the clattering kitchen.
