ARC2012 Diary: Day 5 – Saturday

Last night was not nice.

Our self steering gear was having problems with the ever shifting winds. Will kept everything under control but the noise of the flogging sails kept everyone up. I was pretty apprehensive about taking over. Every noise is amplified when lying in the forepeak.

When I got out at 2am the waves and wind were confused. When I was left alone in the cockpit everything seemed pretty grim.

Lord of the Rings can be pretty dark in places. Tonight the sky and sea closely match the spoken words coming through my headphones. The moon has an amazing halo around it. The light the moon reflects at night out at sea is incredible, it’s like someone is shining a torch over us.
